About Shimla
Shimla (also spelt as 'Simla') derives its name from goddess 'Shayamla Devi', which is another manifestation of Goddess Kali. Shimla is one of the few places in the world where an enormous amount of history and heritage has been distilled into such a small place in so short a time. Shimla has been blessed with all the natural bounties, one can think of. Dwelling on a panoramic location, the hilly town is surrounded by green pastures and snow-capped peaks. The spectacular cool hills accompanied by the structures made during the colonial era create an aura, which is very different from other hill stations.
Shimla retains its colonial heritage, with grand old buildings, among them are the stately Viceregal Lodge, charming iron lamp posts and Anglo-Saxon names. Apart from its natural beauty, Shimla is also famous for its architectural buildings, wooden crafts and apples.
About Manali
The Kullu valley in the state of Himachal Pradesh has an ancient town in its lap called Manali. Surrounded by sky kissing peaks at an arm length, Manali's major treasure is its proximity to the snow clad peaks. Manali is a flourishing orchard industry, a popular honeymoon destination and trailhead for innumerous treks as well as a great countryside ideal for adventure sport lovers and nature seekers.
Manali literally means the 'Home of Manu'. Manu is the mythological character who is supposed to have survived when the world was drowned in Flood. He then came to Manali and recreated human life. Thus, Manali is sacred and Hindus treat the temples over here as pilgrimage
About Chamba
Chamba originated in 6th century AD and is one of the oldest princely states. It is situated on the right side of the river Ravi. Located in the beautiful valley, surrounded by the Shivalik ranges, Chamba also has the district headquarters. It is famous for its medieval temples and Chaugan, a public promenade. The architecture of the buildings of Chamba reflects the artistic taste of its former rulers. Chamba is also famous for its local festivals.
About Dalhousie
The hill station of Dalhousie in western Himachal Pradesh is full of old world charm and carries lingering echoes of the British Raj. It covers an area of about 14 sq km and is set amidst five hills Kathlog, Potreyn, Tehra, Bakrota and Balun. This hill resort of Himachal Pradesh derives its name from the British Governor General of the 19th century, Lord Dalhousie.
The altitude of Dalhousie varies between 1,525 m and 2,378 m, and it is dominated by varied vegetation-pines, deodars, oaks and flowering rhododendron. Dalhousies has charming colonial architecture, including some beautiful churches. Its location presents panoramic views of the plains-and like a long silver line, river Ravi twists and turns below Dalhousie. The spectacular snow-wrapped Dhauladhar mountains are also visible from this town of awesome natural splendour.
About Lahaul Spiti
The district of Lahaul Spiti lies on the north eastern extremity of Himachal Pradesh, bordering the highlands of Tibet. The largest district of Himachal Pradesh, it includes the two sub-divisions of Lahaul and Spiti. The landscape of this region is in sheer contrast to the other mountain regions of Himachal. Crossing the Rohtang Pass in the north, the terrain suddenly changes from lush green slopes and pine forests into a barren desert expanse. Rugged brown mountains and snowfields spread out for miles on end with some vegetation struggling to survive along the river beds. The people of Lahaul and Spiti have struggled against great odds to eke out a living in this high arid homeland. During winters there is heavy snowfall and much of this area is cut-off from the rest of the country. In this long spell of winter, locals have to survive on their summer stocks.
About Dharamshala
Dharamshala stands at the foot of snow wrapped lofty Dhauladhar ranges and offers a magnificent view of snowy peaks, deodar and pine forests, tea gardens and beautiful hills. Dharamshala with a number of Tibetan settlements and the residence of the spiritual and temporal leader of the Tibetan people, the Noble Laureate His Holiness the Dalai Lama, now really has become a place of international significance.
Dharamsala is an important township of Kangra district in the state of Himachal Pradesh in the northern part of India. Numerous streams, cool healthy air, attractive surroundings and the nearby snowline, Dharamsala has everything for a perfect holiday. It is full of life and yet peaceful. Today, Dharamshala in the north Indian State of Himachal Pradesh is home to a large Tibetan Community who have made Dharamshala their home.
